Chilean Rose Hair tarantulas can be tamed, but care should be used when holding them Keep separated.
Captive Environment:
An adult Chilean Rose Hair tarantula will require at least a 5-gallon aquarium. Chilean Rose Hair tarantulas require dark hiding places and a thick layer of moist substrate. You can use reptile bark, shredded coconut husks or a reptile soil mix that you should spot clean at every feeding. If the substrate is to damp, then change as needed, or at least once month.
Temperature:
Chilean Rose Hair tarantulas are indigenous to the semi-arid brush land regions of Chile; therefore, it's crucial that they be provided a temperature range of 72-78°F during the day and in the low to mid 60's"F at night. This is necessary for the tarantula's metabolism and immune system to function properly. There are several methods for establishing the proper temperature range for your pet. Using spotlights of variable wattage incandescent bulbs on the outside of the enclosure, under tank heaters or any combination of these. When using spotlights for 24 hour heat use red, night bulbs or a ceramic heating element to maintain day / night light cycle. Never place lights inside the enclosure where the spider could come in contact with them and get burned. Use a thermometer to ensure proper temperature range is maintained.
Food:
Chilean Rose Hair tarantulas are carnivores. Their primary diet consists of crickets and mealworms. DO NOT LEAVE THE CRICKETS IN THE CAGE FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. If it is possible, gut load the feeder animals and insects before introducing to the tarantula.
Water:
Provide a small shallow bowl with saturated sponge for drinking, and also mist the enclosure every other day for moisture and humidity. They should also be kept at moderate to high levels of humidity.
*Please note that ALL tarantulas have a certain amount of venom. Although most people are not affected by this species, some people may be allergic to the venom, or just more sensitive, making it a dangerous situation. Also, New World species of tarantulas like this one can rub urticating hairs off of their abdomens, which can also cause a reaction, depending on the person. Affects of these tarantulas' natural defenses may vary between people. If it comes in contact with eyes seek medical attention.
