One of the first things you should consider after deciding which small animal you would like as a pet is it's cage. Your small animals cage will be it's home so choose one that will keep your pet safe and provide enough space for it to comfortably move around. There are many shapes and sizes of cages for small animals just provide one for your pet that is appropriate.

After choosing your pet's home it is time to pick out the essential supplies. You should get a water bottle, a food bowl, a hiding place, and bedding for the bottom of the cage. There are different sized water bottles for different animals pick one that is right for your pet. Pick a food bowl that isn't easily tipped over. There are many types of bedding for small animals and most work very well, however if your pet is going to be living in the bedding you shouldn't use cedar bedding as this can cause respiratory problems in small animals. Provide your small animals things to keep them entertained like exercise wheels and tubes for hamsters, and chew type toys for rabbits.

include lots of timothy hay
